Active or retired police, EMS, and firefighters can receive a secure Local Heroes Photo ID Card by providing proof of service at the Fayette County Recorder of Deeds Office.

Training Certificate Filing
The Recorder of Deeds Office offers secure filing of training certificates. Filing these important documents provides a permanent local archive so they can be retrieved if lost or misplaced. This service is provided at no cost.
Proof of Service Requirements
Bring a government-issued photo ID and one of the following documents verifying active or retired status.
Police Officers
- Department-issued photo ID, active or retired
- Letter from the department on official letterhead confirming service
- Retirement documentation
- Badge with accompanying ID or letterhead confirmation
EMS Personnel
- Certification card, such as PA EMT or Paramedic
- Employment ID badge from EMS agency
- Letter from EMS agency verifying service
- Retirement or resignation letter for former personnel
Firefighters — Paid or Volunteer
- Department-issued photo ID
- Verification letter from the Fire Chief on official department letterhead
- Membership card verified by the department
- Firefighter I or higher training certificate
- Retirement letter or honorable service acknowledgment
